Welcome to the Trimble-Jocson Family genealogy website. Gary conducted the research for this site with assistance from distant relatives, their websites, and genealogy research websites, all of which are listed in the Links page. The majority of the data covers Gary's ancestry (the Trimble family and associated families). There is very little data for Edna's family (the Jocson family) as Edna comes from the Philippines where family data is difficult to locate and/or not documented other than that handed down through the family. Gary's research goes as far back as the 1500's in England, Ireland, Germany, and Norway. If you have any questions or comments about this site, feel free to contact Gary by clicking on the Contact Us button in the menu or footer.
Surname Research
Primary research has been within the surnames of Gary's grandparents - Trimble, Ronning, Heppler, and Beecher. The Jocson surname is limited to Edna's immediate family - parents and siblings and their family - due to limited access to research data. Other surnames have been researched related to Gary's family. Click on the Surname link above for a full list surnames.
Interesting Facts
Etymology and History of the name Trimble
There are several ideas of the origin of the name Trimble. According to Richard Stephen Charnock in his "Ludus Patronymicus, or Etymology of Curious Names," is from trebel, signifying "the fair or fine place," and is probably of Cornish origin. According to the best interpretation, it seems to come from the words tre, "a place" or “town," and bel,” fair" or" pretty". Another idea is that the name is derived from the roots trum, “firm," "strong," and compounded with bald, a “fortress," making Trumbald, which has been changed in time to Trumbull and names of that character, which in tum have given place to Tremble, Trimble, etc.-Teutonic Name-System. According to some family tradition, the Trimble surname comes from when a member of the Rule family saved the life of King Robert the Bruce of Scotland at Stirling Park from a charging bull by turning the bull's head. The grateful king decreed that in commemoration of the brave act the new name of the family would be Turnbull, and granted them an area of land then know as Bedrule. There are about three to four Trimble family crests that go along with the Turnbull story.
Origin of the Trimble Family
What is known is that this line of Trimble came from Northern Ireland, most probably Antrim County as cited in several sources. Those of the Trimble line are said to have resided in Antrim, Armagh, and adjacent counties. The appearance of the name in Ireland was due to the emigration which took place across the Channel. This was supposedly done by King James as a force against the Celtic Irish.
